  • Flavors of ice cream can be a metaphor for describing feelings, emotions and uniqueness
  • Have a group discussion about how words can create an image in your mind. 
  • Give students an opportunity to create their own imagery sentences.
  • Create a class list of helpful hints to create imagery.


  • Engage students in creating uniqueness charts

  • Show the students a sample of using an object and words to create uniqueness visuals (for instance use a flower outline placing your name in the center and each petal is something that is unique about you). 
  • Give students a chance to share their uniqueness visuals with the class and hang them in the classroom to remind each other of their unique characteristics that make them who they are as individuals.

 

Notes to Teacher

One purpose of this motivation is to create students’ awareness of individual uniqueness through exploring feelings and emotional expression.

Another purpose of this motivation is to present students an opportunity to share personal information that makes each student an individual and unique.
